Media Walls & Bespoke TV Units in Nottingham
A well-built media wall pulls a living room together. The TV sits flush in its own recess, the cables vanish, the speakers and consoles have a proper home, and the shelving either side gives the room the finish it’s been missing. Done badly, it’s a box of plasterboard that cracks and looks it.
Craig Smith Joinery builds media walls and bespoke TV units across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire as proper joinery: solid frames, accurate recesses, and storage designed around your equipment. Whether you want a full-height feature wall with an electric fire or a fitted unit across the chimney breast alcoves, everything is made and fitted by hand.
Media Walls Built Properly, Not Just Boxed In
Most media walls fail in the details: recesses that don’t fit the TV, nowhere for the router or soundbar, no ventilation for the fire, and joints that crack within a year. A joiner-built media wall starts with your equipment. TV size and wall bracket, fire model and clearances, speaker positions, console and cable routes are all planned before anything is built.
The result is a wall that looks designed rather than added, with shelving, cupboards and lighting where you need them. Built-in media units can also be made as fitted furniture in the alcoves either side of a chimney breast, which is often the best option in older Nottingham homes.
- Full-height media walls with flush TV recesses
- Media walls with inset electric fires, built to the manufacturer's clearances
- Built-in TV units and cupboards in chimney breast alcoves
- Hidden cable routes, soundbar shelves and console storage
- LED lighting to shelves and recesses
- Painted, oak, slatted and panelled finishes
Why Choose a Joiner for Your Media Wall
A media wall is part furniture, part building work. It has to carry the weight of a TV, hold its shape for years, and give access to equipment and cables when they need changing. That’s joinery, not just stud and plasterboard.
Every media wall here is built on a rigid timber frame with doors, shelves and panels made to measure, so it stays straight and solid. Cupboards are sized for real equipment and the finish is matched to the room, whether that’s a clean painted look or natural timber.
- Recesses sized to your exact TV and bracket
- Fires fitted to the manufacturer's ventilation and clearance guidance
- Solid, crack-resistant construction
- Storage designed around your consoles, router and speakers
- 30 years of joinery experience across Nottinghamshire

Media Wall Questions
How long does it take to build a media wall?
Most media walls are built and fitted in two to four days on site, with workshop time beforehand for doors and units. Painting or finishing can add a little extra. A timescale is given with the quote.
Can you fit an electric fire into the media wall?
Yes. Inset electric fires are built in to the manufacturer’s recommended clearances and ventilation. The fire model should be chosen before the build so the recess is made to suit.
Will the cables be hidden?
Yes. Cable routes are built into the frame so the TV, soundbar and consoles connect without visible wires, with access left for future changes.
Do you build TV units for chimney breast alcoves?
Yes. Alcove units with cupboards below and shelving above are one of the most popular options in Nottingham’s period and 1930s homes.
Can the media wall be painted to match the room?
Yes. Most media walls are finished in a painted colour of your choice. Oak, walnut and slatted timber finishes are also available.
Do you cover my area?
Media walls are built across Nottingham, West Bridgford, Beeston, Arnold, Carlton, Hucknall, Long Eaton and the surrounding Nottinghamshire villages.
