Wooden Floor
Bespoke Wooden Floor Installation in Nottinghamshire
At Craig Smith Joinery we design, supply and fit bespoke wooden floors that transform homes across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands. With more than 30 years of hands-on joinery experience, every board is measured, scribed and finished by hand — giving you a hardwood floor that looks stunning on day one and holds its character for decades to come. Whether you are refurbishing a period cottage, upgrading a new-build or specifying flooring for a commercial fit-out, we tailor the timber, pattern and finish to the way you actually live.
We work with solid oak, engineered hardwood, walnut, ash and reclaimed timber, laid as classic straight plank, herringbone or chevron parquet. Every project starts with a free site survey so we can assess the subfloor, moisture levels and light in the room before recommending the right board width, grade and finish for your home.

Choose Us
Why Choose a Craig Smith Wooden Floor?
A wood floor is one of the biggest visual features of any room, so it deserves more than an off-the-shelf approach. We hand-select each pack of timber, check every board for grade and colour consistency, and acclimatise the wood on site before fitting. Skirtings, thresholds and door bottoms are re-cut and re-hung so the finished floor sits flush and neat throughout the house — the details that separate a proper joinery installation from a rushed retail fit.

Types of Wooden Flooring We Fit
Solid Oak Flooring
Traditional solid oak boards machined from a single piece of timber. Ideal for living rooms, bedrooms and hallways where you want a floor that can be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifetime.
Engineered Wood Flooring
A real hardwood wear layer bonded to a stable multi-ply core. The best choice for kitchens, open-plan spaces and any room with underfloor heating, because it resists cupping and gapping as temperature and humidity change.
Herringbone & Chevron Parquet
Timeless geometric patterns that lift period properties and add character to modern homes. We set out every pattern from the centre of the room and hand-scribe the borders for a showroom finish.
Restoration & Sanding
Bring an existing wooden floor back to life with dust-free sanding, gap filling, staining and a hard-wax oil or lacquer finish chosen to suit the room’s use.

FAQ
Wooden Floor FAQs
Most domestic installations take 2–5 working days depending on room size, pattern and finish. Herringbone and chevron parquet or full-house projects take a little longer because of the extra setting-out and finishing work involved.
Yes. We recommend engineered hardwood over underfloor heating because its multi-ply core stays dimensionally stable as the system heats and cools. We check flow temperatures and follow the timber manufacturer's guidelines on every install.
Solid oak is the classic choice for bedrooms, living rooms and hallways at ground and upper floor level. Engineered wood is better in kitchens, basements, over concrete slabs and anywhere with underfloor heating. During your free survey we'll recommend the right option for each room.
Yes — we can supply and fit the whole floor, or lay client-supplied timber. Supplying the flooring ourselves usually gives you better value and a single point of responsibility for any warranty issues.
Sweep or vacuum regularly, use felt pads under furniture, wipe spills quickly and use a wood-floor-safe cleaner. We provide a full aftercare guide on handover, and we can return to re-oil or re-lacquer high-traffic areas years down the line.
We cover Nottingham, Mansfield, Newark, Southwell, West Bridgford and surrounding villages across the East Midlands. Get in touch with your postcode and we'll confirm.
